Relaince Jio Offers Free voice calls, data services, zero roaming charges

NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday unveiled the details of Reliance Jio launch at the company's 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) in Mumbai laid out his plans to unveil a 4G LTE mobile network Jio (the largest in the world) in the country, including making all domestic voice calls and roaming free, while saying data would be priced but below its competitors

Mr. Ambani said in company’s annual general meeting in Mumbai that 4G network would cover 90 per cent of India's 1.25 billion population by March 2017 and would eventually cover 18,000 cities and 200,000 villages.

 Key highlights from his address to the shareholders:

1.       45 plans at Rs.50 per GB
2.       Free data services for the first four months after the launch
3.       Free voice calls, data services
4.       Zero roaming charges
5.       Under it's welcome offer, all Jio services including voice, apps, and 4G LTE data would be available free of cost to everyone from September 5 to December 31, 2016.
6.       All voice calls to be free; no Jio customer will have to pay for any voice call
10 tariff plans starting at Rs 19 a day for occasional users
7.       To achieve 100 million customers in record time
8.       Rs 149 a month for light users, Rs 4,999 a month for heavy data users
9.        Roaming charges for Jio customers will be 'zero' within India.
10.    The base 4G LTE data rate on Jio will be 1/10th of other players - at INR 50 per GB
11.    10 4G LTE data plans to choose from

12.   Under a special student discount scheme, students to get 25% more data on producing a valid student identity card
13.    A peak download speed of upto 135 MBPS on the Jio network

15.   Jio's app booking, worth INR 15,000 for an annual subscription, will be available free for all active Jio customers till December 31, 2017
16.   To be formally launched on September 5
17.    4G-enabled smartphones to be launched at INR 2,999 under its LYF brand

"We have price points starting from Rs 19 for the occasional data user, to a monthly Rs 149 plan for the light data user and all the way up to a monthly Rs 4,999 plan for the heaviest data user," Ambani said.
Two-thirds of India's 1.3 billion population are not online, and Jio hopes to capture 100 million users - nearly half of India's current smartphone users - within a year of launch.
